Who is it Vhils?
Large-scale murals and smaller works on doors and wood paneling, from Alexandre Farto, also known as Vhils, combines detailed figuration with a process where he tears the surfaces to be perforated or with chemical products to create his images (predominantly portraits). With this subtractive process, Vhils unites elements of painting and sculpture and reflects on how the built environment absorbs change and social development.Vhils studied at Central Saint Martins and improved his practice in the world of graffiti. In his studio he creates engravings, paintings and posters. Vhils he has exhibited in several cities around the world and has produced collaborations with several institutions, including the EDP Foundation in Lisbon, the Center Pompidou, the Barbican Centre, the CAFA Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.
