On October 25th, the birth date of Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Casa da Arquitectura celebrates the architect with free entry to the exhibitions and two events: a conversation that brings together friends and collaborators of the Brazilian Pritzker (Nuno Sampaio, Fernando Serapião, Inês Lobo and Martin Corullon) and the launch of the double issue of Revista Monolito dedicated to the houses of Mendes da Rocha, which is for sale exclusively at Casa da Arquitectura. Entry is free.
Taking place at Espaço Luis Ferreira Alves, starting at 5:30 pm, the conversation anticipates the launch of the double issue of Monolito magazine entitled “Paulo Mendes da Rocha: houses”, the result of collaboration between the publisher and Casa da Arquitectura. With 360 pages in a bilingual version (PT/EN), the magazine is illustrated with images from the collection donated by Paulo Mendes da Rocha provided by the Casa Archive.
Issue #57/58 of the magazine “Paulo Mendes da Rocha: houses” presents 71 projects for single-family homes, from preliminary studies to built works, created between 1955 and 2011.
More than half of the projects are new, with seven presenting more than one version. Two thirds of the projects refer to urban housing, but beach and country houses are also present. The works portrayed are essentially located in Brazil, but there are also proposals for Portugal, France, Italy and Peru.
The constructed works were photographed by Leonardo Finotti and the texts were signed by Ruth Verde Zein, Nuno Sampaio and Fernando Serapião.
