
The 6th edition of CONTEXTILE – Biennial of Contemporary Textile Art, takes place between September 3 and October 30, 2022. Guimarães will once again be the host city for this edition – Contextile 2022 – combining the 10 years of existence of the biennale simultaneously with the 10 years of celebration of Guimarães 2012 – European Capital of Culture. Ten years later, and with 5 editions already held, the Biennial is recognized as an international reference in the field of contemporary textile art. But it is also a unique cultural and artistic event, which transforms Guimarães, and the Vale do Ave region, into the epicenter of a process of interaction and connection between artists, creators, communities, industry and territories, thus contributing to the reinforcement processes the identity of the place, encouraging creativity and innovation and valuing textile culture. With the partnership and support of the Municipality of Guimarães and Dgartes, and the textile industry, CONTEXTILE 2022 will occupy the various cultural spaces and public areas of the city, always with the aim of promoting what is best done in the city. contemporary textile art in Portugal and in the world, and to encourage artistic creation, with textiles as a reference.
"Re-Make - Dialogues for a Textile Culture" is the concept of Contextile 2022 - Biennial of Contemporary Textile Art and opens on September 3rd, and can be visited until October 30th, in the main cultural spaces of the city of Guimarães. The Official Opening Ceremony, which takes place from 6 pm onwards, at the Palácio Vila Flor (CCVF), will be attended by the General Director of Arts, Américo Rodrigues. On the opening day, the inauguration at the CIAJG - Centro Internacional de Arte José de Guimarães, from the Exhibition "10 Artists - Textiles in Portuguese Art", with Gisela Santi, Margarida Reis, Ana Vieira, Eduardo Nery, Leonor Antunes, Lurdes Castro, João Pedro Vale & Nuno Alexandre, José de Guimarães, Antonio Barros and Joana Vasconcelos.
