This Saturday, March 4, Pinacoteca de São Paulo inaugurated a new building: Pina Contemporânea, which will now display the institution's contemporary art collection. The new building is located in the center of São Paulo, just 80 meters from the main museum and, with the addition, the Pinacoteca de São Paulo complex (formed by Pina Luz, Pina Estação and now Pina Contemporânea) becomes the second largest museum of Latin America, second only to the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico.
With a project signed by Arquitetos Associados, an office based in Belo Horizonte with a wide repertoire in creating galleries, designing pavilions in Inhotim and at the Venice Architecture Biennale, Pina Contemporânea opens with the exhibitions “Chão da Praça” and “Haegue Yang: almost colonial". The good news is that, in the first 30 days of the exhibition (that is, until April 2nd) admission will be free. After this period, admission will cost R$10 for the exhibitions, but access to the building will remain free.
The Pinacoteca Contemporânea has 6,000 square meters of built area and two large exhibition spaces: the Great Gallery, with 1,000 square meters, and the Praça Gallery, with 200 square meters.
In addition, the new Pina has library areas, bleachers, café and restaurant, which are in the finalization phase. Pina Contemporânea has the potential to receive 1 million visitors per year.
