Washington Luiz Reis Arléo was born in 1954 in the city of Ituberá, interior of Bahia. Grew up in Salvador, more specifically in the port of the bar. It was in this soteroopolitan scenario that the artist emerged. Arléo has always designed, since again, however never planned to actually act as an artist. Teenager, he took a trip with his girlfriend to the island of Itaparica, climbed into a coconut tree and stopped when trying to get a coconut. The story resulted in a temporary loss of movement in the legs and an insight: "If you can not move your feet again, that my work is referring to the movement of the hands."
