The Swedish Academy distinguished playwright, fiction writer and poet Fosse, 64, for his “innovative plays and prose that gives voice to the unspeakable”, according to the justification for the award read by the permanent secretary of the Nobel Committee, Mats Malm, at a ceremony in Stockholm .
Malm said he had already spoken to Fosse, who was driving through the countryside, north of Bergen, Norway, and they had the opportunity to discuss details about Nobel week in December, when the prizes are awarded.
“His immense body of work, written in Norwegian and spanning a range of genres, consists of a wide variety of plays, novels, poetry collections, essays, children's books and translations. Despite being one of the most represented playwrights in the world, he has also become increasingly recognized for his prose”, added the justification for organizing the award.
In Portugal, multiple of his works are published, with emphasis on the work done by Artistas Unidos, who have been staging his plays since 2000, starting with “Vai Vir Someone”, brought to the stage by Solveig Nordlund.
In Livrinhos de Teatro, by Artistas Unidos and the publisher Cotovia, are published “A Noite Canta os seu Cantos”, “Inverno”, “Lilás”, “Press Conference and Other Traps”, and “Sou o Vento/Sono/O Guitar Man.”
Among other editions, Cavalo de Ferro has been publishing Fosse's prose, with emphasis on “Trilogia” (2022) and “Septologia I-II” (2022).
