
Caixa Geral de Depósitos once again acquires works of art for its Collection and launches the 2nd edition of the Caixa Contest for Young Artists for people between 25 and 35 years old. Applications are open from July 21 to September 11, 2023.
The Caixa Contest for Young Artists forms part of a set of initiatives that Caixa Geral de Depósitos develops in the field of culture and is intended to recognize and encourage young artistic production in the field of visual arts.
In the first edition of this new contest, works by Adriana Progranó, Dayana Lucas, Fernão Cruz, Igor Jesus, João Gabriel and Sara Mealha, for a total value of €48,000, which became part of the CGD Collection, managed by Culturgest.
Since 2006, the Culturgest Foundation has been responsible for the study, management, dissemination and conservation of around 1,800 works of art in the CGD Collection, including painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, video, installation and engraving. As designated manager of the CGD Collection, Culturgest is also responsible for drawing up the acquisition policy and for its careful execution.
A first pre-selection of applications will be carried out by Bruno Marchand (visual arts programmer at Culturgest) and the decision regarding the winners will be taken at the end of October 2023 by the acquisitions committee composed of:
- Emílio Rui Vilar – Chairman of the CGD Acquisitions Committee
- Catarina Rosendo – Art Historian and Curator
- Isabel Carlos – Independent Curator and Art Critic
- Delfim Sardo – Administrator of the Belém Cultural Center
- Nuno Faria – Curator
