The Bienal de Arte Contemporânea da Maia 2023, under the motto “I got here for walking”, will take place from May 19 to October 15, 2023, in Maia, with some online activities.
The Bienal de Arte Contemporânea da Maia 2023 aims to act in the field of achievable utopias, presenting new authors and diverse themes. It intends to be a place of social imaginary, political reflection and cultural sharing.
The 2023 Bienal de Arte Contemporânea da Maia program features a variety of events that include the central exhibition, performance exhibitions, performative activations of works, a video exhibition with online extension, works in the public space, concerts, courses and workshops with artists, conversations and debates with artistic agents.
“It was for walking that I got here” aims to reflect on caring for the future, with awakened senses, flexible thinking, availability for the new and the brilliance of imagining, in order to, in a human and global dimension, reveal a diverse field of new possibilities and solutions.
The selection of works and events presented in the various spaces in the center of Maia aims to provoke reflections on the place of culture in democracy and society. Following the directions of the past, and continuing the luminous path traveled, Maia will continue to be a place of critical thinking, aesthetic experience, artistic training, dissemination of access to the arts and promotion of cultural diversity. A place of human, intellectual, emotional and sensory value.
In this biennial of multidisciplinary art, trans and interdisciplinary creations that intersect the plastic arts with literature, music, dance, performance, design and cinema will cohabit. The central exhibition at Forum da Maia, in surrounding spaces and on the streets of the municipality will be an opportunity to enunciate and manifest, creating spaces for conviviality, sharing and knowledge.
The training and creation proposals, the activation of the installations and the performances – including the tasting ones – will follow community models. The investigation and creation of gastronomic dishes, to be presented in four performances and a workshop, are a proposal for the rediscovery of local products and the renewal of our gastronomy. The art and education program, including courses and training guided by artists, proposes a debate around culture, memory and identity.
