The inauguration of the IV Moment of the 2023 Maia Contemporary Art Biennial will take place on September 23rd, at 10:30 am, at Forum da Maia. The event features new workshops, exhibitions, performances, concerts, gastronomic performances, a visit guided by the curator and presentation of the catalogue.
Opened on May 19th, “it was to walk that I arrived here” now presents the last of four moments. This event allows you to review the Biennale's central exhibition, as well as discover the new works created by Raul Macedo and Hugo Adelino, which will be presented in two exhibitions in the public space; watch the performances of Inês Tartaruga Água, Sarilho and Arcana; taste flavors during the Artists' performance and discover new sounds with Susana Chiocca & Pedro André, Mariana Camacho, Henrique Apolinário & Sirte and Pisitakun Kuantalaeng. There will also be an opportunity to participate in the sound instrument workshop with Inês Tartaruga Água, the results of which will be shared with the public on the same day. Finally, the catalog will be presented and a guided visit to the Biennale will take place by curator José Maia.

The curatorial project designed by curator José Maia for the Maia Contemporary Art Biennial 2023 includes a vast program of events and activities aimed at different audiences, different communities of affection, held between May 19 and October 15, 2023, at the Forum of Maia and Municipality of Maia, expanding online (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, email and website). It brings together proposals from more than 80 creators and artistic collectives from different generations, geographies and artistic areas, such as visual arts, video art, performance, cinema, music, sound, digital art, around the idea of achievable utopias and the future as their origin. , design, artist publications and literature.
The 2023 Maia Contemporary Art Biennial operates in the field of hope, calling for achievable utopias and possible futures. Over the course of almost six months, more than 200 works by 80 creators were presented at around 50 events. The Biennale program presents a wide range of events, including: exhibitions, performance shows, concerts, activations of works, interventions in public space, a video exhibition with extension to the web space, a collection of e-mail art , artistic residencies, courses and workshops with artists, conversations and debates with various artistic agents. Interdisciplinary works are presented that intersect the visual arts with literature, music, dance, performance, design and video.
