The painting 'Lady with a Fan' by Gustav Klimt (1862-1918), the last one the artist painted before his unexpected death, will go up for auction on June 27 for 80 million euros, announced auction house Sotheby's in London.
The work, which will be the star of Sotheby's summer auction, was created at the height of Klimt's career, and will have a bidding base of 65 million pounds (around 80 million euros), announced the auction house, in a statement.
Portraying a woman with an unknown identity, the painting brings together all the technical values and creative exuberance that define the painter's great works, highlights the international auction house.
At that time, Klimt had begun works of greater expressiveness, with happier patterns, colors and shapes -- such as flowers and dragons - in a style influenced by contemporary artists such as Van Gogh, Matisse and Gauguin.
The painting "Lady with a Fan" was put up for auction 30 years ago, and acquired by the current owner.
The previous Klimt painting of the same level that went up for auction was the portrait "Adele Bloch-Bauer II" from 1912, sold in November 2006 for 87.9 million dollars (81 million euros).
In private negotiations, the most relevant portraits by the same artist were sold in 2016, "Adele Bloch-Bauer", for 150 million dollars (138 million euros), and "Adele Bloch-Bauer I", sold to Ronald Lauder to the Neue Galerie in New York, in 2006, for 135 million dollars (125 million euros).
