The head of state cut the inauguration ribbon during a visit to Waddesdon Manor, a historic Rothschild family property about 80 kilometers northwest of London.
However, the speech was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho, in which he highlighted that "a work in which the artist is Portuguese, the materials are Portuguese, but the context and location are unequivocally British, is an excellent combination to celebrate 650 years".
"Joana is synonymous with creativity, the unexpected, always breaking new barriers in artistic expressions", stated the head of Portuguese diplomacy.
Joana Vasconcelos began working on this project in 2017, which involved recovering molds and re-producing many decorative pieces of buildings and facades of common buildings from the beginning of the 20th century.
In total, around 25 thousand tiles, 1,238 pieces of ceramic and 3,500 pieces of wrought iron were used, all produced in Portugal and dismantled to be transported to England. "This is a work that was done with a lot of love, with unconditional love for Portugal, for its heritage, unconditional love for ceramics and unconditional love for tradition", summarized the artist.
Guided public tours of "Bolo de Noiva" will take place between June 18th and October 26th, at quintasFridays and some Sundays.
"Bolo de Noiva" is a 12-meter-high building covered in tiles and decorative glazed pieces from Fábrica Viúva Lamego that took five years to complete.
The President of the Republic's trip concluded a visit to the United Kingdom to celebrate 650 years of the Luso-British Alliance, which was marked by a meeting with the British King Charles III, at Buckingham Palace.
