Open House Lisboa returns on the 13th and 14th of May with a look at the architectures that surround us as living entities, with a before and after, reflecting the different stages of the life cycle of buildings, a proposal by the Lisbon atelier Embaixada. Founded in 2002, this atelier integrates people from all over the world, working in a dynamic hierarchy, in which each work is developed as a prototype for the future. It is currently led by Cristina de Mendonça, Nuno Griff and Paulo Albuquerque Goinhas.
In its 12th edition, Open House Lisboa proposes the visit - free or accompanied by specialists - to more than 50 projects, urban walks with those who know each neighborhood best, challenges for children and accessible sensorial visits for blind people, with low vision , or with cognitive disabilities, as well as visits with LGP interpretation for deaf people.
The 372 different projects that participated in Open House Lisboa over all these years are now gathered in a digital atlas, which you can consult at all times.
This digital collection will also feature all the spaces that can be visited this year, including spaces with a regular presence at Open House Lisboa and those participating for the first time. For now we reveal that it will be possible to visit the Triangular House, the Silos Ports of Beato, the Astronomical Observatory of Lisbon, the Synagogue of Lisbon, the Thalia Theater, the Hotel Ritz, Carpintarias de São Lázaro, the MUDE - Museum of Design and Moda, the Ismaili Center and the Mother of Water Reservoir. The complete schedule of the 12th edition of Open House Lisboa will be revealed in the press tour that precedes the event and will take place in early May.
In 2023, the Open House Lisboa volunteer team will wear new vests instead of the traditional t-shirts, thus encouraging future reuse and better practices in terms of sustainability. Created by designer Jorge Moita, the vests will be produced with recyclable materials and can be reused in future editions. Open House Lisboa volunteer applications are open until April 26 (form available here: https://form.jotform.com/TrienaldeLisboa/OHL23-voluntariado)
It is also under the motto of sustainability that Lisbon hosts, in December, the first face-to-face meeting of Open House Europe, a cooperation project financed by the Creative Europe program of the European Commission. With the participation of twelve European members of the international Open House network, it includes new opportunities for collaboration between the various countries, to be announced soon.
