Pantone, the international brand responsible for creating the largest color system in the world, released the tone for the new year. Pantone 18-1750, called Viva Magenta, explores the dynamic between Artificial Intelligence and human creativity to create the "Magentaverse", said the US company, which catalogs colors by codes used as references in a variety of industries. At the announcement published on the multinational's website and social networks, Pantone explains that this color is "courageous, fearless and pulsating", with an "exuberance" that "promotes optimism and joy". "Powerful and empowering, it's a lively red that encourages experimentation and unrestricted self-expression. Bold, spirited and inclusive of all."
To elect the color, Pantone considered the onslaught of challenges that people have faced in recent years, such as the Covid-19 pandemic. For that, an “animated red, pulsating with movement”, was necessary, looking at nature as one of the main inspirations. “We chose this color because we felt it was an unconventional hue for an unconventional moment, something that could introduce us to a new vision,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Institute. “It's a color that really vibrates with vivacity and vigor, which demonstrates a new sign of strength, something we all need for a more optimistic future. In this age of technology, we seek inspiration from nature and what is real. Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family and is inspired by cochineal red, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family, as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has ever known."
