
The six winning names of the 2nd Caixa Competition for Young Artists 2023, awarded to artists aged between 25 and 35, were announced. The Caixa Geral de Depósitos initiative is aimed at recognizing and stimulating young artistic production in the area of visual arts.
Catarina Lopes Vicente, Fernando Travassos, Isabel Cordovil, Maria Trabulo, Rodrigo Gomes and Tiago Madaleno are the six winning names in the competition aimed at artists aged between 25 and 35. As part of this competition, works from these six artists are acquired for a total value of €48,000, which become part of the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Contemporary Art Collection.
Applications took place between July and September 2023, with the decision regarding the winning names taken by the CGD Collection Acquisitions Committee, made up of Emílio Rui Vilar, President of the CGD Acquisitions Committee; Catarina Rosendo, Art Historian and Curator; Isabel Carlos, Independent Curator and Art Critic; Delfim Sardo, Curator and Administrator of the Belém Cultural Center; and Nuno Faria, Curator.
Since 2006, Culturgest - Fundação Caixa Geral de Depósitos has been responsible for the study, management, dissemination and conservation of the approximately 1900 works of art in the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Collection, including painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, video, installation and engraving. As designated manager of the CGD Collection, Culturgest is also responsible for developing the acquisitions policy and its careful execution.
The Caixa Geral de Depósitos Collection reflects a comprehensive and inclusive contemporary style. This acquisition competition opens a new chapter in the history of the Collection, opening doors to younger generations with the aim of promoting its consolidation and qualification.
